What discounts can you get on PIP?
Which discounts and concessions may use a PIP award, which depend on the mobility component or rate, and which need a completely separate assessment.
Last reviewed: 6 July 2026 · UK guidance
In brief
PIP can be evidence for some travel, vehicle, leisure, telecom and local schemes, but it is not a universal discount card. The component, rate, award length and account holder may matter.
Check each scheme’s current rule. Do not share the assessment report where the award letter or verification is sufficient. An award can also affect means-tested benefits, so request a full welfare check.
Travel and vehicle routes
Motability, vehicle tax relief, Blue Badge, railcards and local transport use different criteria. Some link to a mobility rate; others assess functional need independently.
Bills and household support
Some broadband providers accept PIP for social tariffs; water and Council Tax support use their own rules. Ask providers to state the exact qualifying evidence.
Leisure and companion access
Venues may accept PIP, Access Card or other proof for concessions or essential companion tickets. Read the access policy and apply before booking where required.
Protect personal information
Use the minimum evidence and verified route. Redact unrelated details if permitted. Paid discount-card sellers should not imply official government status.
A PIP-linked scheme enquiry
Use with any provider or venue.
I receive PIP at [component and rate if relevant]. Please confirm whether your current discount or access scheme accepts this award, which page of evidence is required, whether the account or booking must be in my name, what the concession covers and how long approval lasts.
A practical checklist
- Check component and rate requirements.
- Treat each scheme separately.
- Use minimum evidence.
- Request a wider benefits check after an award.
