Virgin Media Essential Broadband

How to check Virgin Media’s Essential Broadband options, cable availability, existing-contract treatment and service needs.

Last reviewed: 6 July 2026 · UK guidance

In brief

Virgin Media’s supported broadband products use current eligibility rules and are available only on its network. Confirm the exact package, speed, price and how an existing customer moves.

Separate broadband from TV, phone, mobile and equipment. A supported broadband plan may not reduce other parts of a bundle or existing arrears.

Check network and eligibility

Use the address checker and official tariff page. Ask what evidence is needed, whether the account holder must receive the qualifying benefit and how often eligibility is reviewed.

Unbundle the account

List broadband, TV, phone, add-ons and equipment. Ask which services end, remain or become separately charged when moving to Essential Broadband.

Check existing contract and debt

Confirm whether a minimum term or exit fee is waived, when the new price starts and how arrears are handled. Request affordability support separately.

Assess service suitability

Check upload and download speed, router, installation and fault support. Ensure the service meets essential work, education and health use.

A Virgin Media Essential Broadband request

Use with the affordability team.

Please check current Essential Broadband eligibility and availability at my address. Break down my existing bundle, confirm the speed, total price, contract and equipment changes, and explain separately how any arrears will be managed. Please send the outcome in writing.

A practical checklist

  • Confirm network availability.
  • Separate bundle components.
  • Check contract and arrears.
  • Compare speed with essential use.
