Sky social tariff and affordability help

How to check Sky’s current social-tariff or affordability options while separating broadband essentials from TV extras and contract commitments.

Last reviewed: 6 July 2026 · UK guidance

In brief

Sky broadband and television can appear on one account, but a lower-cost broadband route may not include or reduce television packages, devices or other extras. Ask for a complete account breakdown before agreeing a change.

Check the current eligibility and service details on Sky’s official affordability page. If the account is already difficult to pay, request payment support at the same time instead of waiting for a tariff decision.

Strip the account back to what is essential

Ask Sky to list broadband, line, TV packs, multiroom, cinema or sports, equipment and any separate device balance. Decide which services the household actually needs for communication, work, education or accessibility. Removing an extra may trigger notice or contract consequences, so request the effective date and charge.

Check the social-tariff package carefully

Confirm speed, monthly price, minimum term, setup charges, eligibility review and what happens at the end of the supported period. Ask whether an existing broadband contract can move without an exit fee and whether television services continue separately.

Deal with arrears as a different problem

Tell the affordability team what can be paid after priority bills. Ask for collections to pause while a sustainable arrangement is considered and explain any vulnerable-customer or accessibility need. A cheaper future tariff does not automatically resolve an existing balance.

Compare outside Sky without rushing cancellation

Use Ofcom’s social-tariff list and address availability checks. Confirm installation and activation before ending the current service, particularly where the connection supports medical contact, school or remote work.

A combined Sky request

This separates broadband, television and arrears.

Please break down my Sky account into broadband, TV, extras, equipment and any arrears. I need to check the current social-tariff or affordability route for broadband, including speed and contract consequences, and I also need a realistic payment arrangement for any existing balance. Please confirm the options in writing.

A practical checklist

  • Request a full account breakdown.
  • Confirm what the supported broadband package includes.
  • Ask how TV and extras are affected.
  • Treat old arrears and future price as separate issues.
