Hyperoptic Fair Fibre
How to check Hyperoptic’s lower-cost broadband route, including building availability, speed, eligibility and what happens to an existing contract.
Last reviewed: 6 July 2026 · UK guidance
In brief
Hyperoptic services are available only in connected buildings or areas, so address availability is the first test. If Fair Fibre is offered, check the current qualifying criteria and the exact package rather than assuming every Hyperoptic customer can move to it.
A lower price should still meet essential household needs. Compare speed, router, installation, contract length and any existing balance or cancellation charge before agreeing a change.
Check the address and the account separately
First confirm that Hyperoptic serves the property. Then ask whether the named account holder meets the current Fair Fibre criteria. If the service is not installed in the building, a social tariff cannot remove the engineering or landlord-access barrier.
Understand what changes
Ask whether the package starts a new minimum term, changes upload as well as download speed, includes a phone service and affects any promotional credit. Existing customers should ask whether a migration fee or early-termination charge applies. Keep the confirmation before accepting.
Raise affordability even if eligibility fails
A failed social-tariff check does not answer the payment-difficulty question. Ask the affordability team about a temporary arrangement, removal of optional extras and accessible billing. If the account is already restricted, explain any need for health, work, education or caring contact.
Compare realistic alternatives
Use Ofcom’s social-tariff list and an address checker to see what else is available. Include installation time, total monthly cost and reliability in the comparison. Avoid cancelling the current connection until the replacement is confirmed.
A message for Hyperoptic
Use this for a new or existing account.
Please check whether Fair Fibre is available at my address and whether the account holder meets the current criteria. I also need the speed, total monthly price, contract term and any effect on my existing agreement confirmed in writing. If I am not eligible, please explain the affordability support available for the current account.
A practical checklist
- Confirm building or address availability.
- Check the current eligibility evidence.
- Ask about contract and migration consequences.
- Keep the existing service until an alternative is live.
