Warm Home Discount and energy help
How to check the current Warm Home Discount scheme, respond to evidence requests and combine the rebate with wider energy support.
Last reviewed: 6 July 2026 · UK guidance
In brief
The Warm Home Discount is applied under rules that change by scheme year and differ across Great Britain. Some households are identified automatically; others may need to apply or contact the scheme, particularly under Scottish arrangements.
The discount is a bill credit, not a full solution to unaffordable energy or arrears. Check supplier support, meter accuracy, payment plans and Priority Services separately.
Use the current scheme-year guidance
Check the official government and supplier pages, eligible electricity supplier and relevant dates. Do not rely on a letter or article from a previous winter.
Respond to verification requests
If a letter asks you to contact a helpline or provide evidence, use the official number and deadline. Keep the letter and confirmation. Be alert to scams asking for fees or bank passcodes.
Check supplier and account details
Confirm the named supplier, electricity account and address match official records. Tell the scheme about a recent move or supplier change through the stated route.
Add other support
Ask about an affordable payment, hardship funds and the Priority Services Register. A discount credited later may not prevent immediate self-disconnection or recovery action.
A Warm Home Discount check
Use with the official helpline or supplier.
I need to confirm my position under the current Warm Home Discount scheme year. Please check the electricity supplier and account, whether I am identified automatically, any evidence or deadline, and how a recent move or supplier change is handled. I will not pay a fee or share a one-time passcode.
A practical checklist
- Use current scheme-year information.
- Respond to official evidence requests promptly.
- Check supplier and address records.
- Ask separately about immediate affordability.
