Accessible Remote Jobs: Where to Find Inclusive Work-from-Home Roles

How to search for genuine remote work, test whether a role is actually accessible and avoid job scams targeting people who need flexible work.

Last reviewed: 6 July 2026 · UK guidance

In brief

“Remote” does not automatically mean accessible. A role may still require fixed video hours, rapid phone work, travel, inaccessible software or home equipment the employer does not provide. Read the working pattern and ask specific questions before applying.

Use established job boards, employer career sites, disability-confident networks and professional contacts. Never pay for a job, equipment release, training certificate or background check through an unknown recruiter.

Define the access conditions you need

Write the hours, communication methods, travel limit, equipment, sensory environment and flexibility needed. Separate non-negotiable access needs from preferences so you can search and ask clearly.

Check the role behind the remote label

Ask whether remote is contractual or discretionary, whether office attendance can change, how performance is measured and which systems are used. Check training, meetings, customer contact and time-zone expectations.

Recognise common scams

Be cautious of interviews only through messaging apps, unusually high pay for simple work, requests to move money, buy equipment with a cheque or share bank login details. Verify the vacancy on the employer’s own site.

Request adjustments during recruitment

Ask for written questions, extra processing time, captions, an accessible platform or another format. You do not need to disclose every medical detail; explain the barrier and adjustment.

A remote-work accessibility question

Send this to the recruiter before investing in a long process.

Please confirm whether this role is contractually remote, any required office or travel days, the usual meeting and telephone load, core working hours and the systems used. I also need [adjustment] for the recruitment process because of [brief barrier].

A practical checklist

  • Define non-negotiable access needs.
  • Verify the vacancy on the employer site.
  • Never pay money to obtain a job.
  • Ask whether remote status can later change.
